Antoni Gaudi, the Catalan genius, designed every object, every piece of furniture, every staircase. He had to negotiate with all the concerned parties of the time to build his buildings, private houses, gardens, even his cathedral, the Sagrada Familia. This knob was created for Casa Battlo, on Passeig de Gracia, in the block of houses known as “Illa de la discordia,” Barcelona’s own Champs Elysées. It was originally the house where Mr Batllo i Casanovas had his shops on the ground floor and his living quarters on the first floor, and rented out the rest of the building. This was the way in Catalonia in the beginning of the 20th century.
