Antoni Gaudi, the Catalan genius, designed every object, every piece of furniture, every staircase. He had to negotiate with all the concerned parties of the time to build his buildings, private houses, gardens, even his cathedral, the Sagrada Familia. This knob was created for Casa Milà, on Passeig de Gracia, Barcelona’s own Champs Elysées. It was originally the house where Mr Milà had his shops on the ground floor and his living quarters on the first floor, and rented out the rest of the building. This was the way in Catalonia in the beginning of the 20th century. The building is nicknamed “la pedrera,” stone quarry — who knows why! The knob is made of polished unvarnished brass, which lends it an interesting patina.
