How do you choose the right door stop for you?

Visit door stops are indispensable accessories for preventing impacts between door handle and the wall or floor. They protect not only the door, but also the wall or floor from damage caused by repeated impacts. Door stops can be used for all types of door: interior or exterior, light or heavy.

At the Quincaillerie, we have learned from our experience to be able to advise you as best we can in the choice of your doorstops. Here's our advice:

What materials should you choose for your doorstop?

As you know, the use of door stops is not to be taken lightly, as it involves a number of technical aspects that you need to be aware of. First of all, it's important to choose the right door stop for the type of door and the environment in which it will be installed. There are several types of door stop: rubber, metal and plastic. Each type of door stop has its advantages and disadvantages in terms of strength, durability and aesthetics. At La Quincaillerie, we have chosen to sell only doorstops made from a metal base with a rubber edge. Over the years, we've noticed that these doorstops are the most resistant over time.

Does the height of the door stop count when choosing?

Yes, it's important to consider the height of the door stop. If it's too high, it may not fulfill its protective role properly, while if it's too low, it may not be effective. It is therefore advisable to choose a doorstop whose height is adapted to the door and its environment.

Fixed or floor-mounted stop?

La Quincaillerie recommends floor or wall-mounted doorstops. This type of stop is much more resistant and will fulfill its role as a door knocker.

Please note:

  • for a floor-mounted stop, care must be taken if you have underfloor heating. Drilling too deep can damage your system.
  • For a wall-mounted stop, you'll need to measure the depth of your handle and opt for a stop 1cm deeper.

It is also important to secure the door stop. If it's not properly secured, it could easily come loose in the event of an impact, causing serious damage. We therefore recommend the use of screws and plugs suited to the surface to which the doorstop will be fixed.

And what about design?

It's important to consider the aesthetics of the door stop. The door stops can be decorative elements that add a touch of elegance to the door and the room. It is therefore advisable to choose a doorstop that blends in well with the style of the door and the room.

Once you've made your choice, all that's left is to install the doorstop. The teams at La Quincaillerie have written a step-by-step guide to installing a doorstop in this article.
