The R. Koolhaas handle, designed by Rem Koolhaas and his agency OMA, is a radical design object. It was born of a clear conceptual gesture: to reduce the handle to its essence, by dividing it into two independent components - the axle and the lever - and then joining them together via an invisible assembly system, called a slot joint. This point of contact becomes a symbolic and functional articulation: a way of celebrating mechanics while sublimating them. The result is a handle with an assertive, almost graphic geometry that assumes a strong presence without ornament.
The handle's purist form allows a multitude of combinations, making it a medium for architectural expression. Its modular logic means it can be integrated into a wide variety of projects, from the most minimalist to the most expressive.
Visually, the Koolhaas window handle captivates with its sculptural rigor.
