Pair of Guimard Porcelain door handles

This pair of Guimard door handles made of Limoges porcelain is one of our must-have items. The dynamic shape of this door knob is the result of a unique creative process. Hector Guimard modeled it by pressing a lump of clay in his left hand to give it its general shape, then in his right hand, imprinting his thumb and index finger into it. The rosettes and backplate are made of porcelain.

Description

The pair of Guimard door handles in Limoges porcelain is one of our must-haves.

The original knob, designed in 1897 by Art Nouveau master Hector Guimard, was used as a model for its reproduction as part of the 2000 renovation of the Castel Béranger, a building in the Rue la Fontaine district of Paris's 16th arrondissement, built between 1895 and 1898 and listed as a historic monument. Hector Guimard is best known for designing the mouths of the Métropolitain in Paris.

This door knob's flowing shape is the result of an unprecedented creative process. Hector Guimard modeled it by pressing a lump of clay into his left hand, giving it its general shape, and then into his right hand with the thumb and forefinger. In this way, the knob can be manipulated with both hands and used from either side of the door. This knob clearly expresses its functionality, and is also pre-figurative of gesture art.

Please note that this model is intended for indoor use only, and cannot be installed outdoors. But we have no doubt that it will embellish your interior decoration with its Art Nouveau touch.
